MIDDLETOWN, NJ - Chief of Police, Robert Oches, is requesting the cooperation of businesses and residents in the Township of Middletown to leave lights on during the Halloween period, which will be on October 30th and October 31st.
Although we will have the usual sufficient coverage as in previous years, the Chief suggests outside lights being left on these two evenings as a deterrent to vandalism. He would also ask residents to get in the habit of putting on their outside lights all year round. A 60 watt bulb costs only pennies a day. It deters not only vandals, but other crime as well.
Trick or Treating is limited to October 31st and the Chief requests parents to accompany the younger children and recommends terminating at 7:00pm for this age group. As a precaution, please stress the refusal of unwrapped candy and examine fruit before eating. Also, children should wear light colored clothing or reflective clothing when dusk sets in. Several toy manufacturers now make flashlights just for Halloween, which help as well.
Anyone involved in criminal mischief will be promptly arrested and parents will be held responsible for any damage done by their children.
Please know where your children are. An 8:00pm curfew will be in effect. Cooperate with your police and volunteer organizations on the nights of October 30th and 31st. By working together we can continue to keep Middletown a safe community. We hope to keep this a safe Halloween; as we have succeeded in doing over the past years. My thanks to everyone in the Township for their continued support and cooperation.

What: Mudslingers Art Show & Sale
When: Sunday, November 11, 2012; 1-6pm
Where: 39 Leroy Place, Red Bank, NJ
RED BANK, NJ - This year marks the 15th Anniversary of the annual Mudslingers Art Show and Sale. The celebration will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 1-6 pm. The show is hosted by accomplished Red Bank potter Lauren Bellero in her home/studio location, 39 Leroy Place, Red Bank. Each year, a prominent local artist is also invited to participate. This year’s show features artwork by the talented Mike Quon of Fair Haven, NJ. It’s a cool little art show in a cool little town.
“The Dublin House” by Mike Quon
Lauren Bellero is an award winning clay artist whose unique decorative and functional pottery has been shown in several galleries throughout the United States and in select juried art shows. Though her initial career was as a “professional” in a large company, Lauren eventually found corporate life to be a drain on her creative spirit. Remembering her apprenticeship with Pfaltzgraf Pottery as a high school student, she resurrected her early interest in clay and began what has become a twenty year study of the medium. She rediscovered her passion in the early 90’s, and in 2001 left corporate life to become a full time artist. Lauren’s specialty is “pit firing” which is an ancient technique of firing unglazed pots in an earthen kiln (hers is a 10’ x 4’ x 4’ deep pit on Canadian property she and her husband own). This type of surface treatment results in pottery with a distinctive flame-inspired palette and a natural, earthy quality. Lauren also creates one-of-a-kind functional glazed ware for everyday use. More about pit firing and Lauren’s work can be learned by visiting her website: mudslingerspottery.net, or ‘friend’ her on facebook.
Mudslingers’ featured guest this year is artist and designer Mike Quon. Mike is a graphic artist best known for his colorful, bold brushstroke style and whimsical depictions of favorite places, everyday objects and architecture. The son of a Disney animator and student of the Pop Art movement, Quon has had a distinguished career as a graphic designer and illustrator. Mike especially enjoys drawing buildings and landmarks in his free-form style, and is available to create an original 'Home or Favorite Place Portrait' by commission.
